Equanimity (n.) Latin: æquanimitas, having an even mind; aequus even; animus mind/soul) a state of psychological stability and composure which is undisturbed by experience of or exposure to emotions, pain, or other phenomena that may cause others to lose the balance of their mind.

Equanimity Outdoors pairs with outdoor education to empower participants in the outdoors. Personal agency-building coursework emphasizes community, ownership, accountability, and action to overcome dominant narratives.

This creates a means for individuals to begin to develop agency in the outdoors and beyond.

The idea: training and technical skills do not serve recreationists if they don’t have the personal agency to believe in their capacity to influence their own thoughts and behavior, or have faith in their ability to handle a wide range of tasks or situations.
